Jamie Oliver's new Recipease in Battersea

Jamie Oliver's new Recipease in Battersea

It appears that my move from north of the river has been just enough to tip the demographic scales in favour of Battersea when it comes fertile ground in which to test new gastro trends. Those in control at Jamie Oliver have decided that Battersea represents the perfect area in which to try out their new concept store Recipease which opens tomorrow (26th Feb), and I’m excited.

I like the concept. Cooking is fun and social, but can become a bind after a hard day at work when faced with a tumble-weed-bare cupboard. The thought of having a cooking-pro on hand as I wend my way home, to help with ideas and ingredients, is an appealing one. The prices look reasonable too in the current climate: menu prices. The provision of basic cooking courses will also work well for weekend traffic I’d imagine.

Battersea and Clapham have no shortage of aspiring foodies, wannabe rock-n-roll cooks, and young disposable incomes, so I think the Oliver brand has chosen well. I think the key for this concept will be getting people in-and-out quickly in around the suggested 10 minutes – any more and people might feel it takes a little long, especially on a trip home in the evening. The proximity of Waitrose, M&S, and the weekend Northcote Road Market, will also provide fierce competition, and I’m not sure about the colour of the shop! Having said that, I really hope this is a success. For all that he has done to raise food awareness in this country Jamie Oliver deserves it.

I’ll get myself booked onto some of their courses, and post the outcomes!
